Home Mediation Fees

Mediation Fees:

The cost of mediation usually depends upon three things: the level of conflict between the parties, the complexity of issues involved, and how the parties process information. Greater complexity or higher levels of conflict may require more sessions to reach agreement. A successfully mediation agreement will cost significantly less than going to trial and will produce a result that is designed by you for your unique circumstances.

The typical litigated divorce in LA County may easily cost $25,000 or more per party, for legal fees for one court hearing, plus court fees, experts witness fees, and much more if the case goes to a full trial. A collaborative divorce, negotiated by attorneys trained in collaborative process, typically costs less than litigation, perhaps in the $8,000 to $12,000 range, or more. Mediation, by comparison, is significantly less expensive than either litigation or collaborative process; typical mediation fees are in the $2,750 to $4,000 range.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL IT TAKE TO REACH AGREEMENT?

A good mediation should not be rushed. It is well worth the time taken to be sure that you are fully satisfied with the agreement that you develop. Divorce mediation may require four or five sessions, or more, from assembling your information to signing your completed agreement.
